Ohio gym membership cancellation laws

Ohio treats gym contracts you pay for before receiving the service as 'prepaid entertainment contracts.' You get 3 business days after the first service is available to cancel (7 if the facility wasn't available when you signed), and you can cancel by email. Contracts must also allow cancellation for death, disability, or relocating 25+ miles.

Other reasons you can cancel

Disability / deathDeath or disability: the contract must say you pay only for the period before death or disability, with any excess returned within 30 days. (Ohio Rev. Code § 1345.42(B)(5))
Moving awayRelocating 25 miles or more from the seller's facility (or a substantially similar facility that would accept the contract): give written notice that you are relocating and ask for the contract to be terminated, and the contract is prorated. (Ohio Rev. Code § 1345.42(B)(7))
